Historically, religious and social seasons have been linked to a remarkable growth in commercial activity, which contributes to the emergence of multiple human and economic transformations. With the rapid technical development and the revolution in digital facilities that led to an increased internet access rate globally, especially in Saudi Arabia—where the proportion of internet users reached 99% of the total population in 2023—the impact of religious and social seasons, foremost among them the holy month of Ramadan, has doubled on both merchants and consumers, subjecting various commercial sectors to a radical transformation that keeps pace with this rapid development.

In recent years, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has witnessed a tangible growth in the field of e-commerce concerning regulatory aspects and targeted goals. Expectations are rising that the volume of e-commerce in Saudi Arabia will jump to more than 34 billion Saudi riyals in 2026, compared to 2021, when its size reached 19.3 billion Saudi riyals.

E-commerce—which is considered one of the most prominent phenomena in the modern economy—has fundamentally changed the nature of trade operations and consumers' interaction with them, especially in Saudi Arabia. The role of the Salla e-commerce platform has stood out in this transformation, playing an essential role in achieving this exceptional growth as the largest e-commerce platform in Saudi Arabia.

It is worth noting that the sales volume during the Ramadan 2024 season on the Salla platform exceeded 1.6 billion Saudi riyals, representing an increase of 105% compared to other months of the year between the two Ramadans, in which the average sales were about 792 million riyals. Meanwhile, the number of orders reached more than 6.5 million, an increase of 116% over other months where the average order volume was 3 million. The average order value (AOV) in the month of Ramadan was 274 riyals, while the average basket size was 3 products. Note that the use of mobile browsers is the most common with a percentage of 90%, proving customers' preference for using mobile devices to browse websites and order, while store applications come next at 7%, indicating that some customers use specific applications provided by stores to place orders.

The statistics included in this report generally reflect the extent of steady growth in commercial activity and sales during the month of Ramadan, which constitutes a vital period in many markets. They also highlight the positive impact of the current digital transformation in e-commerce and the importance of leveraging the exceptional holy month of Ramadan to achieve financial gains for merchants.

The "E-Commerce on Salla Platform Report for Ramadan 2024" reviews the performance of e-commerce on the Salla platform during the Ramadan season in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and analyzes its impact on businesses and consumers alike. It highlights the most important factors that contributed to the commercial growth of Salla stores during the holy month of Ramadan, which inspires the discovery of new opportunities in the field and maximizes the benefits of this digital transformation.

How to track your progress?

Track your weekly order completion rate in the Salla dashboard and compare performance before and after each change. Focus on mobile, which accounts for most visits across Saudi Arabia and the GCC. Small, continuous improvements are easier to measure than major changes.
